Runrig - Live at Celtic Connections 2000

Recorded in Glasgow at Celtic connections 2000, This is Runrig’s first Live album since the arrival of new front-man Bruce Guthro. As well as performing music from their ‘In search of angels’ album, (’Big Sky’ being one of my favourites) it’s great to hear some older Runrig classics being revived and given a new edge by Bruce’s Vocals, the opening ‘Flower Of The West’ & ‘Protect and Survive’ sound fantastic, and as for Bruce’s breathtaking rendition of ‘Hearts Of Olden Glory’- Wow, and just wait until the audience joins in.. close your eyes and you’ll be there with them!
A lot of the songs on Celtic connections sound even better than the album versions, although a couple such as ‘May Morning’ and ‘Skye’ - (you just can’t beat donnie’s version of skye) don’t seem to have quite the same energy as the originals.
Another nice touch is performances from the Glasgow Islay Gaelic choir, singing solo on ‘Cearcal A’ Chuain’ and joining the band on the beautifully atmospheric ‘Pog Aon Oidhche Earraich”
